Habitat Creation

Habitat Creation

Habitat creation involves protecting, enhancing and restoring habitats, which may be required as a result of protected species work or to enhance existing features of interest. This may involve the production of a woodland management plan, grazing regimes for grasslands, or creating green corridors which link features such as ancient woodland.

Habitat creation may involve enhancing habitats for protected species, such as pond creation for great crested newts, hedgerow laying for dormice, or simple measures such as the use of bat boxes within new schemes. Habitat creation is usually linked to mitigation projects or translocation projects, where it must be demonstrated that protected species will not be impacted upon by development and that their favourable conservation status will be retained in the local area.
