Building with Nature sets a new standard for green infrastructure and puts nature at the heart of developments. The process aims to encourage the development of high quality green infrastructure and provides assessment methodologies, guidance and good practise support.
Building with Nature champions best practice placemaking, providing an equitable and accessible space, and provides the ability to support both the core standards and the additional standards of wellbeing, water and wildlife. The Building with Nature tool is used to demonstrate the value of engagement into design and master planning, the implementation and the long term management and support of high quality design.
Building with Nature is a voluntary approach and has been developed to provide the industry with a benchmark. Building with Nature Standards for every type and scale of development across the UK. The benchmark is equally applicable across residential, commercial, and community infrastructure development; and is designed to support the quality of green infrastructure in projects of all sizes, from infill development, up to new settlements
Why Building with Nature
A Building with Nature Award can provide a formal recognition that the development design or project meets the high standards set within the BWN principles. This is externally verified. A commitment to Building with Nature shows a pledge to high quality design and delivery. Building with Nature Standards are robust and reflect up-to-date environmental and planning policy, legislation, and good industry practice.
